TAKE THE ROAD TO GL. SKOVRIDERGAARD

One of our favourite locations to bring our foreign motorcycle guests is Gl. Skovridergaard, deep in the picturesque Lake Highlands in the center of Jutland. The area is surrounded by beautiful forests, and intertwined with roads that are filled with adventures. You can use several days exploring the nice roads and interesting culture you'll find in the Lake Highlands around Silkeborg.

MOTORIOUS - VINTAGE AND KUSTOM KULTURE

Recently, I was invited to an auction of vintage motorcycles and motorcycle parts, being held by some good friends of mine, Lau and Kasper from MOTORIOUS, in the back yard of their vintage and custom apparel shop, located in the raw and pulsating borough of Vesterbro, Copenhagen.

JUPITER'S TRAVELLERS COMPANION

So I've recently earned the title of "Jupiter's Travellers Companion", as an acknowledgement of ongoing support for the Foundation and its aims, and dedication to promoting motorbike travel, and sharing experiences for the benefit of motorcycle travellers worldwide. Or something...

The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage and assist travellers in making an extra effort to develop their observations and insights into something of value for the rest of the world to share, whatever their medium of expression might be, from film, to literature. Or in other words:

"Encouraging those who adventure into the world to go the extra mile and transform their experiences into something of value for the world to share."

TROLLSTIGEN - THE TROLL’S PATH, NORWAY

A very motorbike-friendly mountain road with many sharp hairpins and exhilarating scenery, Trollstigen is literally carved into the cliff face, dramatically crossing the Stigfossen waterfall, and elevating the traveller from the valley floor, into the dark and ominous clouds above.

JOTUNHEIMEN NATIONAL PARK, NORWAY

The morning passed all too quickly, with a breathtaking 230km ride over the hills from Trollstigen, 108 kilometres of which, brought us along Sognefjellet National Tourist Route, the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe, at 1,434 metres above sea level. The ride came to an end when Norway's highest mountain, Galdhøpiggen, suddenly came into view, meaning we had arrived at Jotunheimen National Park...

COLD WAR MUSEUM STEVNSFORT

For more than four decades, the underground fortress, with it's heavy artillery guns, monitored all Warsaw Pact naval vessels, entering and leaving the Baltic Sea. The fortress was constructed to withstand a nuclear attack, and packed with radar, sonar and hydrophones, it could monitor all movements in the western Baltic, and react instantly in the event of an attack.

FROM COPENHAGEN TO STEVNS

A series of 50 images showing what you can find on the short ride south from Copenhagen to Stevns, Denmark. Great architecture, post-industrial landscapes, some undisturbed Urbex, some wide open spaces, great roads, unspoilt nature, fishing harbours, some nice food, and the Cold War fortifications at Stevns Klint. The ride starts at Amager Strandpark, just south of Copenhagen city, then moves through the towns of Ørestad, Køge, Strøby Egede, Store Heddinge, past Højerup Gammel Kirke and Stevnsfortet, then on to Rødvig and Faxe Ladeplads. A great afternoon into evening ride. If a picture speaks a thousand words, here are 50,000 of them :)

RIDING IN AN ARCHITECTURAL PARADISE

After a great ride from Bratislava, I arrived in the city of Buda with the sun beating out of the sky, and a temperature of around 36 degrees, and on the way over the Árpád Bridge, I noticed that the cooling effect of wind on the motorway had been replaced by an invisible furnace, slowly cooking me in my own sweat. Best thing to do, was find a place by the Danube, where I could remove some layers, and eat that questionable bread roll I got at the petrol station, 203 kilometres ago...

EAST SIDE GALLERY, BERLIN

Famous for many reasons, the East Side Gallery is one of the largest open-air art exhibitions in the world, as well as the one that has existed for the longest time. It features murals by artists from all over the world, painted in 1990, just after East suddenly became West, and the overpowering desire for freedom dissolved what was known as the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart".

In the years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, many things changed in Berlin, and the residents of the former East Berlin were left in a vacuum of elation, disbelief, freedom, scepticism, hope, doubt, and a desire to express to the world, the effects of Soviet oppression throughout the Cold War, and afterwards. The remaining 1,300-meter stretch of 'Soviet Segregation Architecture' provided the perfect canvas for artists to express their many conflicting emotions, both freely and without consequence, possibly for the first time in decades.
